A Dwell-featured modern desert compound where architecture, art, and the raw landscape of the Mojave meet.

  • Description

Set on five private acres at the base of Goat Mountain, Goat Mountain House is a contemporary desert production location near Joshua Tree, defined by bold architecture, curated interiors, and an uninterrupted relationship with the surrounding Mojave landscape.

Completed in 2024, the property is composed of two dark, sculptural volumes—a main residence and separate guest house—positioned around a mature olive tree that forms the natural heart of the compound. Smooth stucco walls, soaring ceilings, and floor-to-ceiling glass create clean architectural lines while drawing the desert light and expansive views into nearly every room.

The main house centers around an open kitchen and living space with a large island, sculptural furnishings, textile artworks, natural materials, and found objects. Two bedrooms and a spa-like bathroom continue the restrained palette. Across the property, the guest house mirrors the architectural language of the main residence, with its own living area, kitchenette, two additional bedrooms, and bathroom.

Outside, the architecture opens directly into the desert. A covered patio creates a natural setting for dining and lifestyle imagery, while custom planters filled with sculptural cacti, a bespoke stone fire feature, cedar hot tub, steel pergola, and the property’s mature olive tree offer a variety of distinct exterior environments within a single location.

Created by artist and designer Brian Ware with longtime collaborators Louis Terline and Jeff Madalena, Goat Mountain House was conceived as much as a living composition as a residence. Art, furniture, architecture, and landscape work together to create a setting that feels highly considered without losing the elemental quality of the High Desert.

With five acres of open terrain, panoramic desert views, abundant natural light, and strong indoor–outdoor relationships, Goat Mountain House offers an exceptional Joshua Tree location for photoshoots, fashion and lifestyle campaigns, film, editorial, architecture, and design productions.
